Eight water operators, four streets, three days: the regional leak detection contest at Sinaia
5 October 2026
Eight regional water operators searched the same town for the same thing — water lost before it reaches anyone. Organised by Hidro Prahova together with Klarwin® and AMP Group.
Between 29 September and 1 October, eight regional water operators from across Romania gathered at Sinaia for a contest with a single, unglamorous objective: find the water that is being lost before it reaches anyone.
The event was organised by Hidro Prahova together with Klarwin® and AMP Group.

The field day
On the second day the teams went out at the same time on four pre-set routes through the town, each with the same equipment: loggers, correlators and ground microphones. Leak detection is patient work — a good result means finding something nobody could see.

What we are doing today is a drop in the ocean. We cannot stand still any more, we have to act, because water resources are getting scarcer and we have to manage them properly and efficiently.
The workshop
The third day had two halves. In the morning, the sponsors presented their technologies. In the afternoon, five round tables — five topics, rotating until every team had been through all of them.
The exchange between operators was the part that mattered most. Teams that normally work alone, each with its own network history and its own equipment, spent a day comparing directly what works.

Results
First place — C.A. Buzău. Second — C.A. Oltenia. Third — RAJA. Certificates of excellence went to the Mayor of Sinaia and the President of the Prahova County Council.
