Klarwin, four years of environmental performance in Cluj

Klarwin, a technology leader in wastewater treatment and water source treatment, has been the only company that took on, since 2017, the management of leachate generated by the non-compliant waste deposit in Cluj (Pata Rât). The station, which was commissioned in May 2018, has processed nearly 170 million litres of leachate, with 70% of the quantity being transformed into pure water.

„Taking stock, we can say that there have been four years of performance in terms of environmental protection in Cluj. We took on the responsibility to intervene at a moment of crisis, following the ecological disaster of 2017, when discharges appeared that reached almost as far as the city ring road. We were the only ones with the right technologies and expertise to remediate the area. As always, Klarwin has fulfilled all its environmental obligations, acting with responsibility for the benefit of the Cluj community. We have thus contributed to the county authorities’ efforts to achieve their environmental targets and we can say that we have steered Cluj towards a circular economy by reintroducing wastewater into the cycle”, said Lucian Pavel, Manager of the Environmental Protection Department at Klarwin.

In the four years of operation, the Pata Rât station has logged nearly 25,000 operating hours, with an average yield of over 70%. Throughout this time, Klarwin has made every effort to obtain the best possible parameters in terms of permeate quality, despite the challenges caused by the multiple contaminations of the waste collected non-compliantly for nearly 70 years.
